Is It a Good Black Friday Deal? Normal Prices for Popular Products
A Black Friday "deal" is only a deal if the price is below what the product normally sells for. Use this table to check: it shows the typical list price range for 22 popular kinds of products in our catalogue. A sale price near the bottom of the typical range, or below it, is a genuinely good price for that kind of product.

"Typical range" is the middle half of list prices (25th to 75th percentile). Prices are manufacturer list prices (MSRP) recorded in our catalogue, many approximate, for the years each product was most popular; sizes and colours of one model count once. Retail prices vary between stores and change often.
How to tell a real Black Friday deal
- Compare with the normal price, not the "was" price. Crossed-out prices are sometimes inflated. Check the typical range above or the product's page.
- Check the exact model number. Some Black Friday TVs and laptops are special versions with lower specifications than the regular model.
- Last year's model is often the best value. The difference from the new version is often small, and discounts are bigger.
- Large appliances and TVs usually see the biggest dollar savings; small kitchen appliances, streaming devices and smart speakers often the biggest percentage discounts.
- Cyber Monday and the weeks after often repeat the same prices, so there is rarely a need to rush.
